Girlie Run 2
Nov-2005

A 'Girlie' Wiltshire Ride was organised for those who like a more civilised trail ride, including a lunch stop, plus afternoon tea and cakes.

Much fun was had by all, as we got to grips with the slightly moist and soggy conditions.

It all started with lovely clean bikes.... oh how that was about to change....

‘Well somebody up there must love us’

 Heather Spurr

On Saturday 12th November the now well established ‘Girlie’ Group’ got together for a ride out on Salisbury Plain. The weather was perfect with the sun shining down and not a cloud in the blue sky …… somebody must be on our side! The run was lead brilliantly by Bob with Noeline, Sarah, Russ, Richard and new guy Chris and myself.

We set off from Heytesbury at 10am and rode all over the place, don’t ask me where exactly, I was just following Bob and occasionally asking ‘so where are we now then?’. I realised at one point that we were pretty north on the Plain when I saw a road sign saying Marlborough 10 miles.

During the day we came across a Hunt and in a different place a Shoot but guess what ….… no ramblers! At lunchtime, in the garage at Tilshead we met a guy from the London branch of the TRF (where do they ride?) who wants to come out on a ride with us sometime as he’s sometimes down this way so we arranged to keep in touch.

After lunch we seemed to find some even more slippery, muddy bits than we had in the morning and a few of us, at various points, found ourselves trying out bog snorkelling whilst lying face down in puddles. Nice soft landing what with all that mud though! We were having such a good time it was almost dark before we called it a day and headed home ….. but what a great day it had been! I’m sure someone up there MUST be on our side
