Steve Burbidge Raises nearly £4,000 at Great Christmas Escape Charity Run 2016
Sun 8-Jan-2017
Wiltshire TRF member, adventure baker and Rotarian Steve Burbidge hosted his annual ‘Great Christmas Escape’ charity trail ride from Andover to the ‘ghost village’ of Imber on Salisbury Plain on the 28th of December.
The event was his most successful yet, with some 130 riders raising just under £4,000 for Andover & District Mencap’s Senior Gateway Club, which helps improve the lives of people affected by learning disability, and the Rotary Club of Andover’s collection for Andover Crisis & Support Centre’s ‘CRUSH’ programme – a course of group support to empower children affected by (or at risk of) domestic abuse.
Wilts TRF supported the event by providing run leaders and offering route advice, which helped some 20 group leaders offer a comprehensive variety of ’green road’ routes to suit all rider abilities and motorcycle types. A buffet lunch was provided by Burbidge’s Bakery at R.Hunt Ltd Agricultural Engineers in Tilshead, who graciously offered the use of their premises for the event.
(The Crush Project run by West Mercia Women’s Aid, Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland).
