Gig Report

Stones Cross, Midsomer Norton - Sat 8-Feb-2003
And so back to the Stones. Once again, it was pretty damn dead when we walked in, but the usual suspects were there, in the shape of Charlie and Chez, and Jared and Stan, who was accompanied by his sister Hayley and her friend. Like one big, Stones Cross style family.

We weren’t in there for more than 5 minutes, when Von, the landlady, came barrelling over and asks us who puts our posters up.

Now, when you’re in a band that aren’t professional, and need all the help they can get, a good way of getting people to hear about your gigs is to go round with some A4 size posters, a bucket of paste, and a large brush to apply the paste. Stick posters to anywhere people may see them, and hope for the best.
It’s been done for years.

Now, the council want it stopped. Apparently, we’re in line for a TWO GRAND fine, for every poster we put up.
We put up 25 posters.
We’re gonna be doing gigs from now until the day we die to pay that debt off. Why oh WHY do people want to ruin everyone’s fun? I don’t want some kind of legal bullshit, i don’t want to be taken to court. All i want to do is get people to come to our gigs and have fun.
Looks like we’ll be relying on word of mouth from now on.

The gig itself was cool though. Once again the new stuff went down well, with heaps of praise for ’ Punking C ’.
Got to make sure we record that one right it would seem.

It’s a really strange feeling when people who you don’t really know, and people from other places, sing your own songs. Your own lyrics, and your own music that you wrote on some random night somewhere, and didn’t think they’d amount to anything. And next thing you know, a room of 40 or 50 people are singing them back to you. You can feel all the malenky hairs on our plott, standing endwise.

And if you don’t know what THAT means, go watch A Clockwork Orange.

Good to see Dan-who-used-to-be-in-Tweaker there. Had a few too many i fancy. Send me that demo tape you swine.
Thanks to all at the Stones for being so lovely, see you all a bit sooner than you’d expect. But don’t forget, no posters this time.
